Joel Slack - Elder
Joel and Tonya joined FBC Whitewright in 2008. They have 3 children - two boys in college and their daughter at WW high school.
Joel was saved in 1973, and has been involved with ministry for most of his life in one role or another as he grew up in the Philippines with missionary parents.
Joel went to Hardin Simmons in the States doing youth ministry and serving on the College BSM Board, and the Texas BSM Executive Board. He also traveled on mission trips preaching and directing music for revival meetings as well as filling pulpits on Sundays, which he continues to do.
As well as preaching, Joel and Tonya have also worked with many Praise Bands in Texas and Virginia.
Joel is a an amazing and tireless servant for the Lord, stepping in weekly to children’s, youth and adult related ministries. He is a gifted communicator with a joyful passion for Christ, His word, and the church!
Joel has a BBA in Software Engineering and Accounting and also attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, with Tonya earning a BS in teaching and theology.
Joel has worked for the International Mission Board of the SBC, and for the last 28 years for GE\Athena Health as a software engineer and regional manager.
He and His family love to be outdoors and are active playing tennis, soccer or other activities they can be involved in. If he had to pick a song for life it would be “Goodness of God”, while Ephesians 1:3-2:10 are his favorite verses, and Philippians 2:1-7 his greatest aspiration!
